Montgrí Massif Itinerary 2/2

From here drive to l'Estartit and look for the Ter Vell, on the coast to the south of the town. This area offers possibilities of seeing wetland birds such as Great Reed Warbler, Fan-tailed Warbler, Cetti's Warbler, Little Bittern, Cattle Egret and Night Heron.

The next port of call should be the bridge of the C-31 over the River Ter just to the south of Torroella de Montgrí, or at other points of access to the river: between the coast and Verges there are possibilities of finding Penduline Tit, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, and even the scarce Eleonora's Falcon, as well as the heron and egrets that can be found in the region.

Follow on to Bellcaire d'Empordà, and if time and interest permit, take the diversion to the hermitage of Santa Caterina from the village. Eagle Owls inhabit this area, although your chances of seeing them during the daytime are very limited.

To finish the itinerary return to the GI-632 at Bellcaire and then turn right for Sobrestany, following on over the Muntanya Gran until reaching the track joining l'Estartit and l'Escala. Birds that could be seen along the way include Montagu's Harrier, Tawny Pipit, Woodchat Shrike, Southern Grey Shrike and Bee-eater
